British General Officers 1831 Pattern Sword
Created on January 21st 2008
British General officers 1831 pattern Marmeluke Sword.
Blade 31″ overall 36.3/4″
Regulation engraved blade - 1″wide, showing royal cypher for Victoria. The hilt is gilt brass with the regulation crossed sword and batton cartouche. Ivory grips with brass rosettes (2 missing) and original General Officers knot. Solid brass scabbard with two bands and loose rings.
Condition: This General Officers sword has a good blade with minor pitting on the point. The scabbard is mostly dented abound the lower portion and the drag. Interestingly the drag is worn through from use which may indicate the height of the original owner. We surmise that the owner was a busineslike soldier with little time for pomp or ceremony as there are no coats of arms or owners initials, yet this sword has seen constant use through its working life. The ivory grips are chipped but 95% intact. The knot is worn but complete.
